Thread: Moving to a Dedicated Server

Hi,

We moved to quite a bit of servers over the time
For last few weeks we have had non-stop problems with the server.
Currently we are on very strong VPS server, but something was wrong with it so we moved to another VPS even stronger with the same hosting company(theprimehost.com), that didn't helped much.
Among other things that company is using some rented support which are bunch of really stupid people, but I will write review about that....

Also if you remember from late 2011 we are constant target of some bot/DDOS attacks.

So considering all that things I have decided that it is finally time to move to dedicated server.
I think that this is going to be great upgrade, making forum much faster and generally overall better from user experience point of view.
It will also have hardware DDOS protection, so that issue will be finally solved too.

I will perform the move once the new server is configured and deployed,
so you can expect some down times.

the day before yesterday I thought imtalk.org got smashed by DDOS Attack.. cause there was no server connection... :/

but I'm very happy that we got an expert as an Webmaster here!

Most of Forumwebmasters dont know much about IT and developement...
and when these people get a DDOS Attack they cant front and also dont know what they can do.
Most of these people give up and closed there damaged forums.

IMT will never die and cant never get die... thank you nemanja for your excellent administration knowledge!!!

I promised that this year I will be doing upgrades of all sorts on the forum and around it.
So new tools where some sort of the start of that plan,
with this move we will continue in right direction.
I have plans to upgrade certain parts of the forum like BST section and to promote this forum a bit,
so others can find and join us in our IM & SEO journey

Yep lately the server was not doing well and as far as i could trace the server was just down (it was not down due to DDoS attack)
So changing to dedicated will help allot.

I really suggest you move on to unmanaged dedicated from iWeb. they offer i3 server with 4gigs of ram and allot of bandwidth. (just personal experience).
as for security you are on your own there. you need to harden the php + mod sec with some decent rules.. ConfigServer Firewall will be quite sufficient at first. but hey.. lol i am saying all of this for the other guys

Yeah now the forum is lot faster. Have you bought a managed Dedi or without ?

With DDOS protection it must be costly.

lets hope this server brings good effects for all of us .. imt rocks ..

We where on vps 2 core 3.4Ghz with 3Gb of RAM and 100Mbps shared port which was operating for our vps at about 10Mbps.
Then we where moved because of some issues to the vps with 5 core 2.5 GHz and 4Gb of RAM same port.
But server was still slow and non stop with high loads, plus some other stuff.

Now we are on dedicated server without management and with ddos protection.
Server is 8 core 2.5 GHz intel Xeon with 8Gb of RAM and dedicated 100Mbps port.

The difference from the vps is just huge, if you have resources go with dedicated, don't even think about it.

OK, here is the situation...
Some of you might notice that there was some issues with the site last few days,
well there where some issues with the hosting provider, actually there are still issues with that hosting company.

So I've decided to move to a new server with full SSD storage.
Server is mostly a little better in performance from old one and is located in Germany so for me is fast , don't know how is for you guys in US/Asia/Africa...?
Anyhow migration was successfully done and now is all business as usual

Please write here or send PM if you still experience some problems.

There was no problem for me this evening.

This is just an update that we successfully moved to another new server,
however if you are experiencing some issues please post here.
